Abstract: Jatropha curcas plant, the renewable energy resource, is seriously affected by the mosaic disease caused by the mosaic virus (begomovirus) which is carried through the vector white-flies. It severely affects the Jatropha sp. plants by causing leaf damage, yellowing leaves and sap drainage. There are some limitations which come from considering instantaneous infection. Thus, in this article, we have formulated a mathematical model for mosaic disease dynamics in Jatropha curcas plantations incorporating delay in disease transmission using delay differential equation. We identify that the delay parameter is most important for vector borne disease control. Sufficient conditions for the stability of the disease free equilibrium and the permanence of the system are among the results obtained through qualitative analysis. We also show that the delay can cause stability switches of the coexistence equilibrium.

Brief Biography of the Speaker: Fahad Al Basir is presently working as a Post-Doctoral research fellow at Ecological Modeling Laboratory, Department of Zoology, Visva-bharati University, West Bengal, India. He received the B.Sc. (mathematics), M.Sc. (Applied Mathematics), and Ph.D. (Mathematical Biology) degrees in 2008, 2011 and 2016, respectively, from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. His research interest’s concern mathematical modeling and numerical analysis: (The works are devoted to present several mathematical models on the dynamics of plant disease, biodiesel production, enzyme kinetics, eco-epidemiology and infectious disease). He is receiving the Dr. D S Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellowship by UGC, Govt. of India. He authored about twenty five research papers in mathematical modeling.
