Artificial Intelligence Paradigms for Bio-Medical Knowledge-based Systems

Professor Abdel-Badeeh M. Salem
Head of Medical Informatics & Knowledge Engineering Research Unit
Faculty of Computer & Information Sciences
Ain Shams University

Abstract: Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Paradigms and smart health monitoring systems domains highlight the need for ICT systems that aim not only in the improvement of human’s quality of life but at their safety too. AI paradigms provide intelligent approaches, methods, algorithms, techniques, and tools that can help solving diagnostic and prognostic problems in a variety of biomedical domains. This talk presents some of the intelligent methodologies for managing and engineering knowledge in biomedical knowledge-based systems. The talk covers the following techniques: (a) case-based reasoning; (b) data mining and knowledge discovery ;(c) rough sets; and (d) ontological engineering .Some applications at the Medical Informatics and Knowledge Engineering (MEKI) Research Unit at Ain Shams University are discussed as well.
