Abstract: The wireless signals spread in environments containing large and small obstacles that affect the quality of propagation. The obstacles cause a non-negligible loss of the propagated power. The degradation of the signal quality was described by introducing fading and shadowing effects with different distributions. A cases of a wireless communication system that consists of a macro level component, the most often represented by the selection combiner (SC) with two or three micro level components consisting of the maximal ratio combiners (MRC), or equal gain combiners (EGC) or SC combiners, with L branches, were studied in this lecture. The micro level component assumes the presence of a single base station. The received signal was disturbed by simultaneous impact of multipath fading and gamma shadowing, as well as co-channel interference. On the other side, SC component assumes the presence of two or three base stations, where the average power of the received signal was described using gamma distribution. The exact closed‐form expressions were obtained for probability density function of the signal at the output of such systems, followed by the analysis of corresponding system performance. Always, the calculations were depicted graphically expressing influences of different fading values as well as the signal parameters.
